Ingredients Breakdown:
- Niacinamide (10%) – Known for brightening and reducing the appearance of pores, niacinamide helps even out skin tone and diminish dark spots, helps with skin barrier health.
- Tranexamic Acid (4%) – Another key ingredient for brightening. Originally used in medicine to reduce bleeding, TXA has gained attention for its skincare benefits due to its role in inhibiting melanin production. It tackles hyperpigmentation, making it great for reducing acne scars and discoloration.
- Alpha-Arbutin (2%) – This helps further brighten the skin by inhibiting melanin production, evening out skin tone. Alpha-Arbutin, when used alongside other brightening agents like vitamin C, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid, boosts effectiveness without irritation.
- Hyaluronic Acid (Multiple Forms) – With multiple variations of hyaluronic acid, such as sodium hyaluronate and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, this serum deeply hydrates and plumps the skin.
- Centella Asiatica Extract – A soothing ingredient, great for calming inflammation and promoting skin healing.
- Macadamia Seed Oil, Olive Fruit Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Grape Seed Oil – These oils nourish the skin, making it softer and more resilient.
- Ceramides & Panthenol – Strengthen the skin barrier and help retain moisture.
As you can see, the formula of the Anua dark spot serum is full of potent actives, with niacinamide, tranexamic acid, and alpha-arbutin taking the spotlight for brightening, while hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and plant extracts work to maintain skin health and hydration.
My Experience With The Anua 10% Niacinamide+ 4% Tranexamic Acid Serum
First Impressions: When I received it, the first thing that caught my eye was the minimalistic and sleek packaging. The serum bottle itself is made of transparent glass, and the serum is bright pink, which adds a cute touch to my skincare shelf. But packaging aside, let’s talk about what really matters—the performance.
I had heard great things about this serum but was hesitant to try it because of the 10% niacinamide concentration. I was concerned it might be too strong for my sensitive skin. However, I decided to give it a go, and I’m so glad I did.
The texture of the Anua niacinamide serum is viscous, which I think is due to the glycerin and multiple forms of hyaluronic acid. That’s why it also feels hydrating from the moment you apply it.
Nonetheless, I had some heating sensations (slight, thought) after applying it for the first couple of days.
After just a week of use, I noticed my freckles started to fade. While they didn’t completely disappear, the difference was noticeable enough that I took before-and-after photos—and was impressed!
What’s more remarkable is that during this time, I was spending quite a bit of time outdoors under the bright Portuguese summer sun and occasionally forgot to reapply sunscreen, yet the serum still helped lighten my freckles despite of the sun exposure. Along with brightening, I also noticed a significant reduction in my sebaceous filaments, and my pores appeared smaller. To top it off, some of the blood vessels that are usually quite visible on my skin became less noticeable. You can witness it!
One of the best parts? My sensitive skin tolerated this Anua niacinamide serum perfectly. I often struggle with using products that contain multiple actives, but this one felt gentle and worked like a charm.
Final Thoughts: For me, this serum is a 10/10. It worked wonders on my hyperpigmentation, brightened my skin, reduced pore size, and even calmed my sensitive skin. That said, be mindful if your skin is sensitive to high concentrations of niacinamide. While it worked great for me, individual results may vary, so always patch-test first.
Would I repurchase? Absolutely.
