Active Ingredients

Panax Ginseng Root Extract 10%

Ginseng extract is commonly used in skincare for its potential anti-aging and revitalizing properties.

Niacinamide

This form of vitamin B3 has numerous benefits for the skin, including improving the skin barrier, reducing fine lines, and addressing pigmentation concerns.

Retinal

This is a form of retinoid, a derivative of vitamin A. Retinoids like retinal are known for their potential to promote skin renewal, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and improve skin texture. The beauty of Joseon claims there’s Retinal Liposome 2%.

Sodium Hyaluronate

A salt form of hyaluronic acid known for its excellent moisturizing and skin-plumping properties.

Ceramide NP

Ceramides are essential lipids in the skin that help maintain its barrier function and retain moisture.

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5

Peptides are often included in skincare products for their potential to support collagen production and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Also, it helps to reinforce the skin’s natural barrier.

The serum is often called Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng Retinal because those two are believed to be the key ingredients.

Safety Assessment: The safety of a skincare product depends on individual skin sensitivity and allergies. However, based on the ingredients provided, many of them are commonly used in skincare and are considered safe for most people.

Please note that if you are planning to become pregnant or are currently pregnant, it’s essential to exercise caution with retinoid products. Retinoids, including retinal, should generally be avoided during pregnancy due to potential risks to the developing fetus. Always consult with a healthcare professional for guidance on skincare products and routines during this time.

  • Ginseng root extract, niacinamide, and sodium hyaluronate are generally well-tolerated and offer various benefits for the skin.
  • Retinal, a form of retinoid, can be effective but may cause skin sensitivity, redness, and peeling, especially when used in higher concentrations. Following usage instructions and considering a patch test for sensitive skin is important. This shall be avoided when planning or during pregnancy.
  • Ceramides and peptides are often well-tolerated and are used to improve skin barrier function and promote collagen production.
  • As with any skincare product, a patch test is recommended, especially if you have sensitive skin or are allergic to any ingredients.

Consult a dermatologist or skincare professional to assess the product’s safety more accurately for your specific skin type and concerns. They can provide personalized recommendations and guidance on incorporating such a product into your skincare routine.

Retinoid Used in the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng Retinal

Retinoids are a class of compounds derived from vitamin A that are widely used in skin care to improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and address various skin concerns.

Retinaldehyde (Retinal) in Details

This is a less common but potent form of retinoid found in some skincare products. It’s considered more effective than retinol but milder than prescription retinoids.

Skin Benefits

  • Anti-aging: Retinal is known for its anti-aging properties. It can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting collagen production and skin cell turnover.
  • Improved Skin Texture: Retinals can enhance skin texture, making it smoother and evener.
  • Brightening: It can help fade dark spots and pigmentation and even out the skin tone.
  • Acne Treatment: Retinal is sometimes used to treat acne because it can unclog pores, reduce inflammation, and promote skin healing.

Strength and Potency

Retinal is more potent than retinol but generally milder than prescription retinoids like tretinoin. This means it can provide effective results with a lower risk of severe skin irritation.

Over-the-counter (OTC) Availability

Unlike prescription retinoids, retinal can often be found in over-the-counter (OTC) skincare products, such as serums, creams, and oils.

Sensitivity and Tolerance

While retinal is generally considered less irritating than prescription retinoids, it can still cause some skin sensitivity, redness, or peeling, especially when first introduced to a skincare routine.

If you have sensitive skin or are new to retinoids, starting with lower concentrations is important. Gradually increase the frequency of use as your skin tolerates it.

Sun Protection

Retinal, like other retinoids, can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Sunscreen during the day is essential to protect your skin from potential sun damage.

Application

Follow the product instructions for application. It’s typically applied in the evening, as retinoids can break down in sunlight.

Complementary Ingredients

Retinal can be used alongside other skincare ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and antioxidants (like niacinamide) to provide additional skin benefits.

Consult a Dermatologist

If you’re new to using retinoids or have specific skin concerns, it’s advisable to consult with a dermatologist. They can recommend the most suitable products and concentrations for your skin type and guide you on incorporating retinol into your skincare routine.

Retinal is a valuable ingredient in skincare and can be an effective addition to your anti-aging or acne-fighting regimen. When used appropriately and with the right products, it can significantly improve your skin’s appearance and health.

In the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum, ginseng is retinal. As we see from how people refer to it, the retinoid used here is retinal.

My Beauty of Joseon Retinol Eye Cream Review

I purchased the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum as my first retinoid. I waited until autumn to start using it because I knew that retinoids can increase sensitivity to the sun. I didn’t want to begin when the sun was at its peak.

I followed all the recommended steps, including conducting a patch test, which went well.

I used it in the evening after applying a moisturizer with a short ingredients list, as per the advice of dermatologists I had read and watched. I used Vanicream as my moisturizer. The recommended procedure is to apply a moisturizer, wait 15-20 minutes, and then apply your retinol cream or other product type. I used it on both my face and neck.

How does the application of the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum feel?

  • It is smooth and easy to apply.
  • It feels hydrating and lightweight.
  • It is pretty comfortable to use around the delicate under-eye area and the sensitive neck.
  • It absorbs well into the skin without causing tugging or pulling, making the application process effortless.
  • Only a small amount of the product is needed for each application, which means that the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum can last a long time – I used two pumps to cover my face and neck.

In the morning, I felt okay – no irritation from the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum.

But later, I felt that my eyelids were a bit itchy. I thought that this was a coincidence.

The next time, three days later, I repeated Vanicream and then Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum in the evening routine.

My skin tolerated it very well, but my eyelids didn’t – they were itchy again.

Next time, three days later, I applied the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum without prior application of moisturizer. But this time, I didn’t apply it on the eyelids.

I tolerated it very well. While having a combination skin, my cheeks were dry, and they were not very dry or irritated (though more dry than usual).

Later, I decided to use a calming moisturizer as an additional layer on top of the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum, and I felt a bit better.

I continued the same routine for a couple of weeks and now use it around 5 times a week (adding an exfoliation/rest night, almost a skin cycling routine). I’m really satisfied with it. The Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum does not cause any irritation for me except on the eyelids. However, I found a solution for that – I applied it over a moisturizer on the upper eyelid area, and I no longer feel discomfort.

My sensitive skin was prone to occasional breakouts, which now happens less frequently. Additionally, I feel like my wrinkles have reduced a bit. I started noticing them near my eyes (I’m 35 now), and now they seem less visible. But I think this is more about prevention now, as I don’t have many wrinkles yet. So, I suppose this is my investment in prolonged youth.

Regarding other sensitivity issues caused by retinoids or any irritation (except the eyelid area), I didn’t get any of those. The formula of this retinol eye cream is pretty mild, with moisturizing and calming ingredients. I use it around five times a week and apply a moisturizer 15 minutes after applying the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng Retinal.

It’s been five months since I started using it, but I appreciate the results and will continue using it.

However, be cautious with the retinoids and consult your dermatologist if any side effects occur (I hope not!). Besides, retinoids shall be avoided if you plan to become pregnant or are pregnant.
